About
Shaun Austin Everson is a percussionist and music educator, as well as an uprising composer & arranger of percussion ensemble repertoire. Many of Shaun’s current compositional work is attributed to percussion quartets and steel pan ensembles, with more recent additions to his catalog being Idyll Pittoresque for marimba and cello, Sidepusher for percussion quartet, and Steelband Syndrome, an uptempo soca tune for intermediate-advanced steel band. Shaun has arranged music for the University of Iowa Percussion Ensemble, the University of Iowa Steel Bands, the Naperville Central High School “Drumshow” Ensemble, as well as the Naperville Central High School Enchords. Currently, Five Glyphs, Shaun’s most ambitious project yet, is in development. Five Glyphs is a collection of five indivdual percussion quartet pieces, including one vibraphone solo as an interlude. The collection pays homage to Andy Akiho’s Seven Pillars, and the first half of the project is expected to premiere in the spring of 2027. Notably, Glyph I* was workshopped with the world-renowned Third Coast Percussion in April 2025.
Shaun is currently a 4th-year undergraduate student in the University of Iowa Percussion Studio, and has participated in numerous ensembles and performances across the midwest. Shaun was chosen as the First Place recipient of the Iowa Center for the Arts scholarship in April 2026, and has recently performed repertoire such as Velocities by Joseph Schwantner; Meditation no. 1 by Casey Cangelosi; Elegy: Snow in June by Tan Dun; Spiel by Andy Akiho; Khamsin by Emmanuel Séjourné — amongst many others.
*Glyph I is a reworked version of RE:FRACT, which premiered in the spring of 2025.
